Reilly, Sisters and Bears…oh, my!
By Meg | June 30, 2008

Carol M. from West Gardiner, Maine contacted us recently to share a terrific poem with us her 10-year-old daughter, Reilly, wrote, as well as a picture of her three daughters posing with their Vermont Teddy Bears. Many thanks to Carol, Reilly, Erynne and Kelsey! Here’s Reilly’s poem:
My mom got my Vermont Teddy Bear in a store in Vermont. Teddy’s bib has my name on it. I got it when I wasn’t even born yet. In my room, I got to keep it there when I turned 1.
I think it is special to me because I had VTB for a long time and I hug it when I am scared and I hug it when it’s cold outside. I like to keep it close to my bed so I could look at it when I have nightmares. VTB is special to me because it is very cute to hold. The color it really was when I got it was Creamy Vanilla. Now that it’s old, it doesn’t have the color.
I tried to sleep with it, but it’s heavy and it falls off the bed.
I just keep it on the top of my closet.
I love my teddy bear because I feel like I am not alone in my room when I have nothing else to do. I play with it in my room when my mom and dad aren’t home.
Sometimes I play with it with my little sister Erynne. I take it on special trips and sometimes to school. I will save it for my kids to see and keep it in my heart forever.
My memories will be in my heart, always.

Too cute! Though, technically, is it more an essay than a poem? Well, maybe free verse.
And Reilly should know that, if the need arises, our Vermont Teddy Bear Hospital will help keep her special Bear happy and whole for a long time.

I would classify it as a prose poem.
Ditto on the “too cute!”
