“Ain’t No Party like a VTB Party…”
By Nate | November 14, 2007
“…’cause a VTB party don’t stop.”*
That was what I seemed to hear as I milled about the hundreds of men, women, and children who came from all over to help us celebrate National American Teddy Bear Day, a party in honor of…well…you know.
This is the 8th year Vermont Teddy Bear’s held this special day, a blur of arts and crafts, Factory tours, singing, cake and ice cream, balloons, face painting, and Bears, Bears, Bears, Bears! Basically, an awesome time, especially for the under-four-foot-tall set.
Jess Proctor, the Bear Crew member coordinating the cake and ice cream, says that at one point earlier in the day she noticed a little girl standing in front of the still-unsliced cake. The girl had a balloon in hand and her face painted, and as she stared awestruck at the six-foot-long cake and buckets of ice cream, she declared to her parents, “This is the best day of my life.”
It just doesn’t get any Be Bear better.

Jess Proctor delivers cake and ice cream.

Did I mention there was cake? And ice cream?

Gigi Weisman and Joni Avrutick perform “Itsy Bitsy Spider”. They were wonderful and much appreciated by their all-ages audiences.

Ted E. Bear poses proudly. I wish I had video to show how great this guy was clowning with the kids, giving high fives and hugs, rolling on the floor, break dancing, the whole nine.

The namesake himself, President Teddy Roosevelt.
Bear Crew member Brad Barratt brought his father and niece and wrote about it a couple of days ago. Oh, and in case you’re wondering:
- We saw over 300 visitors.
- We served 250 pieces of cake.
- We scooped 6 gallons of ice cream.
- We painted 80 faces.
- We handed out 500 chocolate bear heads.
*Props to Parliament-Funkadelic for the motto.

My father, not my brother.
Just to clarify. It was a decent time.

I also helped out the Teddy Bear Birthday Party and at one point was monitoring the Arts and Crafts table. There was one little girl, probably around 6 or 7 years old, who spent quite a long time coloring in a Bear to give to Teddy as a Birthday card. When she finished she handed it to me and asked if I could deliver it to Teddy for her. Then she said, “I want to work here when I grow up. This place is really fun!” That really made me smile

Brad: Thanks for the correction. I’ve updated the post accordingly.
Liz: Nice story! I have to agree with her. This is the most fun place I’ve ever worked.
