New! Design Your Own Vermont Teddy Bear Page
By Nate | October 16, 2007
As we learned recently, there are many different ways you can customize your bear. If you’re really ambitious, you can fire up your sewing machine and make your Bear’s outfit at home. But even if you have superstar mad seamstress skillz, can you create a tattoo? And embroider it? And change the fur color? How about the eye color?
That’s exactly what we do all the time. We can tweak and trick out your Vermont Teddy Bear till it’s ready for its own video shoot. Or, y’know, just looks the way you want it.
Well, here’s a new spin.
We’ve been able to offer customized Teddy Bears for a while now, but starting today we’re introducing a web site that steps you through the process and really shows a wide variety of options available. It’s even educating me. For example, until I tried the site, it had never occurred to me that we’re able to do things like add words and phrases to a Teddy Bear’s hands and feet.
If you have a minute, please check out the new Design Your Own Vermont Teddy Bear site and see what you think, then come back and let us know here in the comments. And if you’re feeling like Being Bear and leaving an impression with someone special…well…you know…
(BTW, hats off to “new guy” Jonathan Langdale for all his hard work on developing the site. Can you believe it’s his first project here? ‘Nuff respect due.)

Wondering? Recently at a garage sale I picked up a small bear - maybe 4 inches tall. The tag says Vermont Teddy Bear. BUT it was made in China?
Is this a rip-off bear? Or do you have tiny little bears too?

Without seeing the actual Bear in question, I can’t say for sure, but what you’re describing sounds like it could be one of our Teeny Tiny Teddy Grams or Club Cub Bears. Both would have “tush tags” identifying them as Friend for Life Bears, which are “conceived by Vermont Teddy Bear and born abroad.”
We do sell both of these in our Bear Shop here in Shelburne, Vermont. Come visit us if you’re ever in the neighborhood!

I love collecting Vermont Teddy Bears and have about 30 of them. Most of my bears come from previously loved homes where their owners choose to part with them and the money I spend to bring them to my home goes to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. What I like to do with these bear nekkid bears is dress them in clothing or bowties made from fabric which has also been donated to the same organization. Just thought I would let you know.

Evelyn, that sounds like a wonderful way to Be Bear by doing good with Vermont Teddy Bears. If you have any pictures, would you consider letting us share your work in this blog? I’ll be in touch via email.

Can you tell me the age of a teddy based on the tag?
I have a brown teddy with a yellow and white striped tag that I got second hand and I was just wondering how old he was. The tag does say Vermont Teddy Bear Company. The bear is jointed with tan suede pads on his paws, glass eyes and a black velvet nose. Thanks.

Hey Jennie, I consulted with some experts here at The Vermont Teddy Bear Company, and they think that, based on your description, your Bear was born sometime between 1997 and 2001. Hope that helps!
