‘Homeric’ Odyssey? Bear Crew’s Heroic Gluttony
By Nate | August 2, 2007
It takes courage, dedication, and an iron stomach to compete in a donut eating contest, but America can rest easy knowing that brave members of the Bear Crew were willing to take on the challenge. The contest, held last Friday in the lobby of the Roxy Theater in downtown Burlington, Vermont, was the kickoff to the premiere weekend for “The Simpsons Movie”.
Our intrepid donut-nauts included:
- Ryan Leafey: 7.5 donuts
- Andy Francke: 5 donuts
- Jason Segelman: 5 donuts
- Julie Jones: 4 donuts
Note that Ryan was just 1 donut away from tying with winner Joel Ribout!
- Here’s a nicely-produced video from Seven Days (that’s where the pic of Julie came from).
- Here’s the actual contest, in all its glory. Ryan says, “On the right hand side of the table there are two kids, then it’s me, Andy Francke, and then barely visible at the end is Julie Jones. On the left hand side of the table, standing next to the soon to be winner Canadian Joel Ribout, is Jason Segelman.”
- Here’s the last 30 seconds of the competition. Ryan says, “You see Julie Jones standing across from Joel Ribout. You can also see Andy Francke’s back.”
Oh, in case you missed it, the national premiere for “The Simpsons Movie” was the prior Saturday, July 21, in Springfield, Vermont, which had won the USA TODAY contest for the right to debut the film. We celebrated the occasion with some special custom-made Teddy Bears.
